contemplation, thinking, musing, pondering, consideration, reflection, deliberation, rumination, brooding, reverie, concentration
Meditation means many different things. It can mean thinking or not thinking. It can be done to clear the mind to nothing or fill the mind with new ideas or feelings. It can mean listening to music or listening to silence. It can be something you do deliberately in a designated space or in a busy place.
What happens when you don't meditate? The answer is that you follow the crowd. When we don't think for ourselves, we follow what the people around us are doing without making an active decision. We can end up acting in ways that don't make sense, don't line up with our personal beliefs or we can even lose our beliefs. Do you know what that means? It means you lose your SELF. You could lose what is important in your life if it is different than what those around you believe.
If you spend all day at work, arrive home, watch TV and spend the rest of your waking hours on your device, you have no way of letting your inner voice talk. You may become stressed, overwhelmed and disconnected from yourself, your family and your partner.
It can be challenging to begin to meditate. It means watching less TV, looking at your phone or talking to anyone. It may uncomfortable at first. Doing nothing is difficult. You must begin with this step to learn to let your inner voice arrive. You may need to start in increments of 10 minutes. After you get used to doing nothing you can begin to ask questions and this is where your journey begins to get interesting.
Developing a meditation practice is a lifelong skill that requires effort and persistence. You may need to read more information, take a class or try a guided tutorial. Take charge of your life. It belongs to you.
